If you happen to have a Rayflash attachment and a fisheye lens such as the AF DX Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED, it seems like a crime to not try to use the two together, even if it’s not the best fit, but at lower flash power, you get this crazy wraparound light on the face, and this drastic falloff of light into inky blackness (in this case, tweaked/enhanced a bit via Lightroom 4) is a great leftfield vibe…

Update:

I knew I’d seen the combo done before, though I couldn’t recall the exact source, but a quick Googling did the trick. Jarviedigital takes the credit for doing it first, so much so that he’s coined the term “Jarvie Window” for the effect.

According to Flickr, even further back, the earliest instance of Rayflash and fisheye’s unholy union seems to belong to hive_wasp and his photo “what… do… you… want?”

Got the opportunity to shoot our friend Brandon & Co. to commemorate his return to the world. Didn’t get off too too many shots before the security kicked us off the property. Also, this is one of my first videos made with my Animoto Plus account. I’d love to get an Animoto Pro account, but the difference in cost is about $120 so I’ll just have to settle for the Plus account for now.

Had some fun with my new ringflash attachment… I also had a softbox on either side, feathered backwards, and a beauty dish above the front.

A sneak peak of a photoshoot I did a couple weeks ago. My first magazine assignment! I’ve been nerve wracked ever since submitting the shots, hoping they meet the editor’s approval. Fingers crossed, wood knocked upon, etc.

I’m fairly certain these are my 3 favorite pics of the day/night…

Mochipet returned for his 2nd Mardi Gras weekend in a row, performing again for Bass Church at Dragon’s Den. Shortly after these photos were taken, someone slipped behind the sound booth and stole Mochipet’s Macbook from his bag. Thanks in part for his fans and a clever Bandcamp campaign, Mochipet was able to recover the cost of the stolen Macbook and put it towards his new involuntary purchase of a new Macbook (as he was in the middle of a tour, and needed a new one 2 days later)
